During the first year, each incoming resident is paired with a senior resident with whom he/she will rotate during the year. The schedule is as follows:

• 3 months Retina
• 2 months Cornea
• 6 months Pediatrics, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Plastics, Pathology
• 1 month coverage of first-years while at Basic Science Course in Houston, TX
• Residents attend the Harvad Cataract course during their second year

Third Year

Each resident will rotate six months at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and six months at the VA Medical Center, Hampton. The Sentara resident will function as chief resident. Each third-year resident will be paired with an incoming first-year with whom he/she will rotate for the year. The rotation schedule is as above for the first-year residents with the exception of attending the basic science course in Houston. A significant amount of time of third year is spent in the operating room, both at the VA and Sentara Norfolk General. The remainder of the time is spent in clinic at both of the facilities.  Residents attend the Wills Review Course during their third year.
