Program Home | Curriculum | Ophthalmology Facilities | Faculty | Research | Salary and Benefits | Residents First Year During the first year, each incoming resident is paired with a senior resident with whom he/she will rotate during the year. The schedule is as follows:
Sample Sub-Specialty Clinic Schedule at Sentara Norfolk General
1st Monday of the month: Pediatrics
1st and 3rd Tuesday: Retina
Each Wednesday afternoon: Protected research time
(with the exception of 1st Wednesday, which is Neuro-ophthalmology clinic)
2nd Thursday: Laser/Minor procedure
3rd Thursday: Contact Lens
4th Thursday: Glaucoma (AM)/Plastics (PM)
All other days are general clinic unless otherwise specified.
Second Year
Second Year Schedule is as follows:
Third Year Each resident will rotate six months at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and six months at the VA Medical Center, Hampton. The Sentara resident will function as chief resident. Each third-year resident will be paired with an incoming first-year with whom he/she will rotate for the year. The rotation schedule is as above for the first-year residents with the exception of attending the basic science course in Houston. A significant amount of time of third year is spent in the operating room, both at the VA and Sentara Norfolk General. The remainder of the time is spent in clinic at both of the facilities. Residents attend the Wills Review Course during their third year. |
