MISSION

The Mission of the Internal Medicine Office for the Promotion of Excellence in Research and Academia (OPERA) is to initiate, support and promote scientific, educational and clinical scholarship through faculty development and provision of core services related to scholarly activity.

SERVICES

OPERA offers resources and services that assist the investigator from the beginning stage of study design to the final stage of presentation and publication. Services provided by the Office include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying intra/inter departmental mentors and collaborators
  • Identifying funding opportunities
  • Study design consultation
  • Writing/editing proposals
  • Background/literature searches
  • Budget development
  • Advisement on institutional policies and review procedures
  • Assistance with regulatory applications
  • Presentation consultation (PowerPoint and poster presentations)
  • Manuscript editing and publication process consultation

In addition to one-on-one assistance, OPERA also engages in research education for residents and junior faculty.

All Internal Medicine faculty, fellow, and residents are encouraged to utilize OPERA as a resource for their academic activities. OPERA is supported by the department and most services are free. In circumstances where OPERA is not equipped to provide the needed technical assistance, it will assist in making connections to the larger EVMS community and beyond.
