The Department of Internal Medicine is one of the core medical-education programs at EVMS, with devoted faculty and staff, and a warm, family-like atmosphere. We offer several programs for medical students interested in the field of internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Internal Medicine Residency

A three-year program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) that leads to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Ten positions open per year.

Combined Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Residency Program

A four-year program that incorporates the strengths of family and internal medicine training and prepares trainees to manage the medically complex patient and treat a wide spectrum of ambulatory and hospitalized patients. Four position open per year.

Combined Internal Medicine/Geriatric Medicine Residency Program

A four-year program through a collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine and the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology. After completion, a resident would be board eligible for both internal medicine and geriatrics.

Fellowship Opportunities

The Department of Internal Medicine offers three ACGME-accredited fellowships in endocrinology, geriatric medicine, and infectious disease.
