2008-2009 Salaries

  • PGY1: $46,811

  • PGY2: $48,101

  • PGY3: $49,389

Leave

  • Vacation

    • Residents receive 3 weeks of paid vacation per academic year

  • Sick Leave

    • 20 days per year

  • Educational Leave

    • Maximum of 5 days per year at the discretion of the residency director for second and third year residents

Insurance

  • Health Insurance

    • A premier health plan is provided to the resident free of charge. A premium is charged to the resident for immediate family members who need coverage. Other health plans are also available. Additional premiums are charged for dental insurance for the resident and immediate family members.

  • Life Insurance

    • Term life insurance equal to annual pay is provided to all residents

  • Disability Insurance

    • Begins after a 6-month waiting period and provides 60 percent of monthly salary

  • Professional Liability Insurance

    • Provided at no cost for all medical activities within the scope of the residency training program

Retirement

  • Residents may contribute to either TIAA/CREF or to mutual funds.

Workers' Compensation

  • All house staff are covered by EVMS Workers' Compensation.

Moonlighting

  • Permitted with permission of the program director. Residents must provide evidence of malpractice coverage and have full licensure by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Moonlighting time must be included in the new resident 80-hour work week restrictions.
