The Eastern Virginia Medical School Emergency Medicine Residency Program was established in 1981. The program is a fully accredited PGY-I through PGY-III program; we have had continuous full accreditation by the Residency Review Committee (RRC) since 1981.

At our most recent RRC review (September 2005) we received eight years of Continued Accreditation - the maximum allowable.

counselman-award Frank Counselman, M.D., FACEP (left), Director of the EVMS Emergency Medicine Residency Program, won the Residency Director of the Year award in 2003 from the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association.
