The Department of Urology at Eastern Virginia Medical School is committed to supporting the mission of the medical school to provide the highest caliber of specialized urologic care in the region, to provide excellence in education, and to provide advance knowledge through research.
The Department includes 20 full-time faculty members and six community faculty members. We have a close academic partnership with the Department of Urology at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Educational ProgramsMedical SchoolThe Department actively participates in the undergraduate educational programs for medical students. A fourth-year clerkship (sub-internship) is offered as an elective. Residency EducationThe Department sponsors an ACGME-approved Urology residency training program and is involved in teaching Urology to primary care and general surgery residents at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Postgraduate Education Community physicians are invited to participate in continuing medical education in urology via weekly grand rounds, guest lectureships, and a monthly journal club. The Department frequently sponsors continuing medical education seminars for area physicians of all specialties. During the academic year, the Department also hosts many visiting physicians from both the U.S. and many other countries. Clinical ServicesPatient CareUrologic services are provided for patients at the Sentara Hospitals Southside, Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Lake Taylor Hospital and Chesapeake General Hospital. The Department operates through the offices of Urology of Virginia and Children’s Surgical Specialty Group-Children’s Urology. Urology Grand Rounds ResearchMembers of the Department of Urology actively collaborate with investigators at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Old Dominion University. Clinical trials are conducted in concert with the EVMS Department of Microbiology and Molecular Cell Biology. Visit the Virginia Prostate Center site for more information.
