Environmental Health & Safety provides
assistance to faculty and staff working with hazardous materials. Potentially
hazardous materials include biological and infectious organisms, hazardous chemicals, and
radioactive materials. EVMS possesses applicable federal, state, and local licenses and
permits to use and dispose of these materials. Compliance with regulations issued by these
agencies is accomplished through training courses, laboratory evaluations and record-keeping functions.
In the event of a chemical, biological, or
radiological spill, go directly to the Emergency page or call 446-5798 or
after hours call 446-5199 (Security).
Forms required to obtain Authorized or
Qualified User Status, a Film Badge, Chemical or Radioactive Waste
pick-ups or register for a course are available on the
EVMS
intranet. Go to the form, open it and type in the requested
information then click on SUBMIT. If you have difficulty, please call
the EH&S office at 446-5798.
The
Chemical Morgue List is available through the EH&S Intranet site.
EH&S Notes
- Doors to labs containing radioactivity, including waste,
must be closed and locked when unattended.
- Wear safety goggles when splashes are likely.
- Annual Radiation Safety Refresher training is
required for all Authorized and Qualified Users.
