
Hazard Communication Program Eastern Virginia Medical School instituted a Hazard Communication
Program (HAZCOM) as required by the OSHA Standard at 29 CFR 1910.1200 to inform employees
of hazards associated with various chemicals and products. A written Hazard
Communication Program is maintained by Environmental Health & Safety and a copy is
available by contacting Environmental Health & Safety, Lewis Hall, Room 2132. Basic
elements of the program include:
- Hazardous chemical inventory
- Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Labels and other forms of warning
MSDS binders are available at your workplace and
copies are retained in the EH&S Office in Lewis Hall, Room 2142. HAZCOM applies to
employees in Ancillary Services such as Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Security.
Laboratory employees receive equivalent training in the Chemical
Hygiene Plan. Employees concerned about potential hazardous materials in their
work area should contact Environmental Health & Safety at 446-5798.
