Hazard Communication Program

Eastern Virginia Medical School instituted a Hazard Communication Program (HAZCOM) as required by the OSHA Standard at 29 CFR 1910.1200 to inform employees of hazards associated with various chemicals and products. A written Hazard Communication Program is maintained by Environmental Health & Safety and a copy is available by contacting Environmental Health & Safety, Lewis Hall, Room 2132. Basic elements of the program include:

  • Hazardous chemical inventory
  • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Labels and other forms of warning

MSDS binders are available at your workplace and copies are retained in the EH&S Office in Lewis Hall, Room 2142. HAZCOM applies to employees in Ancillary Services such as Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Security. Laboratory employees receive equivalent training in the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Employees concerned about potential hazardous materials in their work area should contact Environmental Health & Safety at 446-5798.
