Several years ago, homeless individuals began showing up at activities run by the Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios in Virginia Beach. After thinking about it, the studio owners (Krista and Jim White) realized that the services they provided to paying customers encouraging fitness and healthy nutrition would be incredibly valuable to the homeless. They created a non-profit foundation, and offer nutrition, fitness and job placement training and services to homeless individuals and other in need at various locations like the Salvation Army, Judo-Christian Outreach Center and Beach House, all in Virginia Beach.

 

LIFT is a 30-, 60-, or 90 day fitness and nutrition program that focuses on instilling a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. Through motivation, cardiovascular and strength workouts, nutrition education, job readiness and other outreach, LIFT makes a difference in the lives of their Athletes (participants). Each LIFT session has a maximum of 20 Athletes. Students involved in this program will be involved in many activities in support of the LIFT Program: Fitness and Nutrition Education, Food Shopping Education, Process Quality Assessment and Improvement and much more.

Project LIFT trains homeless clients sustainable exercise skills. 

The LIFT program teaches and motivates homeless individuals towards sustainable exercise and nutrition skills.

Athletes are also taught nutrition and shopping skills.
