HOPES Free Clinic

HOPES Clinic

These are HOPES students clustering in the hallway during a clinic. ‌

Founded in 2011 as the first and only student-run free clinic in Virginia, the HOPES (Health Outreach Partnership of EVMS Students) Free Clinic is staffed by EVMS students, residents and physicians.  The purpose of HOPES is to serve uninsured citizens of Norfolk with long term and specialty care. The Health Outreach Partnership of EVMS Students is a student-run organization that works to staff and run a free clinic with attending physician supervision. Being student-run means that it relies entirely on students to help staff and run the clinic--both in and out of clinical hours.

More than 95 percent of EVMS medical students participate in HOPES and there is an increasing Physician Assistant student volunteer base as well, putting interdisciplinary training to work. There is a standing wait-list for students to serve on the HOPES clinical team. Learn more about EVMS Medical Education Service Learning requirements.
