Becoming a PA Preceptor

Welcome to the EVMS Master of Physician Assistant Program!  We are grateful for your participation and willingness to educate our students.

The mission of the EVMS MPA Program is to prepare students to provide health care in a broad range of medical settings by training them in the medical arts and sciences in an inclusive, multi-cultural environment dedicated to the delivery of patient centered care, while fostering a strong commitment to clinical and community partnerships.

The MPA Program is divided into two phases and spans 28 consecutive months (seven semesters). Phase I, the 15 month pre-clinical year, incorporates traditional classroom interaction with clinical skills development through the Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning.

During Phase II, the 12 month clinical year, students complete supervised clinical practice experiences, which form the basis of the professional socialization processes for adaptation to the role and functions of a PA.   This is only possible through the generosity of clinical preceptors.

Community faculty appointments and CME credit are available to our PA student preceptors.   If you find that you are interested in a faculty appointment, please contact the Clinical Educators.

The information contained on our website is meant to be a guide to the teaching experience.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the program.

Thank you again for your willingness to education our future PAs!
