    • Jeff Johnson has worked in higher education for more than 30 years, and specifically in academic health centers during that entire time.  He was employed at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) from 1981-1991 in a variety of roles within the Eastern Virginia Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program, culminating in directing that program for several years.  The AHEC Program is a health workforce initiative designed to create partnerships between academic institutions and communities to address defined needs.  From 1991-2000 he was employed at Virginia Commonwealth University as part of the Virginia Statewide AHEC Program, and served as the director of that program for most of his tenure at VCU.  In 2000 Dr. Johnson returned to EVMS and has been closely involved with the overall management of educational programs that are part of the School of Health Professions.  In combination with prior AHEC activities, he has considerable experience with strategic planning, management, budgeting, operations, personnel, logistics, accreditation, and other aspects of higher education administration.  Throughout the majority of his career Dr. Johnson has held faculty appointments at either EVMS or VCU.
