French-Wallace-Anderson Scholarship

History

The Norfolk Academy of Medicine Auxillary established this scholarship June 4, 1991 in honor of Dr. William H. French and Dr. Kenneth Wallace.   

Dr. French was a Virginian only by marriage to the cousin of Frances Newman Wallace.  He was a pediatrician much decorated by foreign countries for his work particularly with asthmatic children.  He was one of only five Americans ever to receive the Austrian Gold Cross.  The framed collage of his medals shall remain on display in the library of EVMS.

Dr. Wallace, an esteemed radiologist in Norfolk, has served as President of th Norfolk Acadmey of Medicine and the Medical Society of Virginia.

 

Criteria

Awarded annually based on:

  • Enrollment in the medical program at EVMS
  • Demonstrated academic excellence
  • Demonstrated financial need
