MD/MPH Dual Degree
Eastern Virginia Medical School, offers a a five year MD/MPH dual degree program for students who have been admitted to the Institution's MD Program. The dual degree program leads to both the Doctor of Medicine and the Master of Public Health degree in any of the four specialized MPH Program Tracks:
- Environmental Health
- Health Management and Policy
- Health Promotion
Medical school provides skills and knowledge to diagnose and treat individual patients. The Master of Public Health degree supplements that medical education by providing physicians with skills in population-based research, design and evaluation of health promotion and disease prevention programs, and management of the health-care delivery system. The MPH Program focuses on the diseases, health status and system of health-care delivery for population groups.
In the first two years, students in the dual degree program register for MD program basic science courses and all MPH courses. At the end of the two years, students are awarded the MPH degree. At the conclusion of the suceeding three years of MD courses, students receive the Doctor of Medicine degree.
MPH classes are held on weekday evenings and/or on Saturdays and do not conflict with the medical school courses. Classes are held on both the EVMS and ODU campuses in Norfolk, Virginia.
Tuition (may increase proportionately with inflation)
- In-state: Students pay the in-state medical school tuition yearly and pay standard per credit hour tuition rates for each MPH course taken.
- Out-of-state: Students pay the out-of-state medical school tuition and pay standard per credit hour tuition rates for each MPH course taken.
