EVMS Psychiatry Residency - Curriculum

Didactic Curriculum

The didactic curriculum is continuous throughout residency training. Residents attend didactics one half-day per week. This time is protected; residents are excused from clinical duties in order to attend didactic lectures.

First-Year Didactic Courses

Didactic courses are held on Wednesday afternoons.

  • Introduction to Psychiatry - one month
  • Psychopathology - two months
  • Psychopharmacology - two months
  • Beginning interviewing - four months
  • Multicultural Seminar - two months
  • Topics in Emergency Psychiatry - two months
  • Evidence Based Medicine Principles - two months
  • Psychodynamics I - four months
  • Psychological Assessment - two months
  • Ethics I - one month
  • Residents as Teachers - one month
  • Neurology - two months
  • Introduction to Research - one month
  • ECT/TMS - one month
  • Research Design - two months
  • Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy - four months

Continuous Didactic Programs

  • Ongoing throughout second, third and fourth years
  • Held on Wednesday afternoons
  • Continuous Case Conference - first and third Wednesdays
  • Research Seminar - second Wednesday
  • Journal Club - fourth Wednesday
