Pediatric Cardiology

Overview

Our cardiac care team includes pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac anesthesiologists, and physician assistants who work closely with pediatric intensivists, medical geneticists, neonatologists, perinatologists and adult cardiologists to form collaborative teams around each patient.  Pediatric Cardiology provides inpatient and outpatient diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up services for congenital and acquired heart disease. Our congenital heart disease specialists coordinate care from prenatal diagnosis into young adulthood and offers appointments in clinics throughout southeastern Virginia in the following locations: Newport News/Oyster Point, Virginia Beach/Princess Anne, Chesapeake/Oakbrooke, and the Eastern Shore/Franktown.

Our Services

Pediatric Cardiology provides a variety of services to diagnose and treat our patients such as:

Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging
Fetal echocardiography for prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease; transthoracic, transesophageal, 3D echocardiography, cardiac MRI, Cardiac CT, & pulmonary function stress testing.

Cardiac Catheterization
Diagnostic and interventional catheterization for congenital and acquired heart disease.  Interventional procedures include transcatheter pulmonary valve replacements (Melody Procedure), septal closures, stent placements, balloon angioplasty, and valvuloplasty.

Electrophysiology/Arrhythmia Management
Pediatric Electrophysiology services include non-invasive heart rhythm evaluation, intracardiac electrophysiology studies with advanced 3-dimensional mapping, radiofrequency and cryoablation, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and management, genetic testing and counseling for inherited arrhythmia syndromes, and management of all arrhythmias in children and adults with congenital heart disease.

Adult Congenital Heart Disease
Ongoing inpatient and outpatient care for adults with congenital heart disease is provided by a collaborative team of cardiologists with expertise in pediatric and adult medicine.
