Our respected colleague and dear friend Dr. Nicholas D'Amato passed away on December 23, 2013. He was a loving and devoted father and husband. His love of people motivated his long hours teaching students. He was the founding director of the EVMS History of Medicine division and authored a three-volume collection, "Vignettes, A History of Medicine." He was born in Tampa, Fla., to the late Pietro D'Amato and Mary Falsone. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Irma Jo D'Amato. He retired a Captain in the U.S. Navy and was Head Pathologist at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was also a founding faculty member of EVMS, a 20 year Assistant Medical Director of LifeNet Health, and a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

He will be sorely missed by both faculty and students alike.
