Message from Program Director
While EVMS Sleep Medicine ACGME accredited fellowship program is designed to expose fellows to “bread and butter” sleep medicine (obstructive and central sleep apnea, persistent insomnia, restless legs syndrome and narcolepsy), there are also unique aspects of the program that allow a more varied multigenerational patient experience. Education occurs at four different (and diverse) sites:
- EVMS’s Fort Norfolk Plaza Sleep Disorders Center
- Sentara Norfolk General Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center
- Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters Sleep Disorders Center
- DePaul Medical Center
- Veterans Administration Medical Center-Hampton
Fort Norfolk Plaza, Sentara Norfolk General Hospita, DePaul and the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters all boast American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited Sleep Disorders Centers.
The sleep medicine experts at these educational settings have diverse backgrounds in psychology, adult and pediatric pulmonary/critical care, adult and pediatric neurology and pediatric otolaryngology. There is also the unique opportunity to engage in studies utilizing a driving simulator as well as the opportunity to explore erectile dysfunction testing in a sleep disorders center.
We hope that fellows find our program intellectually rewarding and that the program provides a solid grounding for the Sleep Medicine board examination and a career as an outstanding academic or private practice sleep medicine specialist.
