Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology

The Glennan Center is renowned for its education of health care professionals at the medical school and in the community. We are training the future health care professionals, to serve the growing population of older Virginians, including medical students, physician assistant students, internal medicine residents and geriatric medicine fellows from the Eastern Virginia Medical School. In our multidisciplinary conferences we educate health specialists from long-term care facilities, assisted-living facilities, and home care agencies and government organizations who reach out to the vulnerable older adults in our community.

In the U.S. News and World Report's Best Hospitals 2014-15 list, the geriatrics program at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH) was recognized as "high performing," meaning the quality of care ranked in the top 25 percent nationwide. EVMS faculty from the Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology help staff SNGH — the top-rated hospital in Virginia — and its geriatrics program.
