Shanna Rone, MD

Dr. Rone was born just outside Los Angeles, California, and has lived most of her life in Virginia – with brief stints in Tennessee, Florida and Massachusetts.  While an undergrad at Virginia Union University, she met the impressive, enthusiastic former director of the Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP) who paved her path to Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Rone’s quest to find a program that supported her goals, focused on improving patient-care processes and offered a dynamic, collegial atmosphere was met when she was graciously accepted into Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Portsmouth Family Medicine program.  Dr. Rone particularly enjoys the combination of medicine and surgery that provides a degree of instant gratification with the ability to develop a level of trust and synergy with patients and their family. After residency, she plans on continuing to practice in an academic center or hospital with academic associations in a suburban area. Equally important in my work-life balance is spending time with my family, as I am a mother of two.  Some of my other pastimes include fencing, ballroom dancing, scuba diving and vociferously reading.‌
