Academic Track

The Ghent Family Medicine Academic track is aimed towards the resident with an interest in a future faculty position and gain a better understanding of the environment of an academic medical career while in their residency training.  The program is customized to the needs , goals, and capacity of the individual learner.  Topics for study include:

  • Medical Finance & GME Funding
  • Basic contract & medical law
  • Strategic planning & change management
  • Hospital leadership design
  • Public speaking & didactics
  • Evaluation Design & Implementation
  • Research design & Medical statistics
  • Longitudinal Curriculum Design & Implementation
  • Learner Motivation
  • Outpatient office precepting

By the end of the track, the resient will be able to

  • Devlop high quality education objectives & curricular plans
  • Deliver effective clinical precepting in both small & large group teaching
  • Understand the fundamentals of budgets and the inner workings of financing medical education
  • Mange projects longitudainally
  • Provide effective, efficient, and skilled feedback, including evaluations
  • Lead an efficient and effective meeting
  • Apply the fundamentals of leadership in daily activities

 **The academic track can only be taken with approval from the medical director.  It is recommended to apply for this track no later than February of a resident's PGY1 year**
