The Eastern Virginia Perinatal Council (EVPC), led by EVMS, is one of the five regional perinatal councils in the state of Virginia.

Mission:

The EVPC’s mission is to reduce perinatal mortality and morbidity by improving health and helping to ensure risk appropriate care to pregnant women and their infants through the creation and maintenance of a collaborative network of individuals and organizations in eastern Virginia who are concerned with perinatal health. The EVPC seeks to serve as a forum to identify regional perinatal issues and to coordinate regional efforts to address these issues.

 Regional Perinatal Councils

Since 1992, the Regional Perinatal Councils (RPC) have made up a statewide network of public/private partnerships that assess the needs of infants and women of reproductive age. Their purpose is to conduct Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Program (FIMR). Some individuals and organizations that participate in these efforts include parents, health professionals, medical school faculty, health and human service organizations, religious groups, businesses, schools and community leaders. The RPCs provide outreach at the direction of the community and encourage consumer participation in actions to advocate and improve perinatal health care.
