"It is most unusual to have a second-year resident publish three papers with three different faculty in one year," says Jerry L. Nadler, MD, department chair of internal medicine. "It shows great initiative as well as an enthusiasm for learning."
Dr. Rashidi published "Diabetic Myonecrosis of the Thigh" in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism with Otarod Bahrani, MD, assistant professor of internal medicine; "Kikuchi-Fujimoto lymphadenitis in an African American man" in the European Journal of Haematology with Ian A. Chen, MD associate professor of internal medicine; and "
Medical journals publish cases such as Dr. Rashidi's because they provide valuable information to medical experts about rare manifestations of both common and uncommon illnesses.
"Doctors know what they do today about illnesses because we share information through publishing cases," Dr. Rashidi explains. "By publishing, we help to draw attention to scenarios that may otherwise not be recognized." |
