Eastern Virginia Medical School celebrated the dedication and accomplishments of faculty and staff Nov. 1 at the 2011 EVMS Service and Recognition Awards ceremony.

The school paid tribute to more than 100 employees who reached their five year anniversary by Oct. 31, 2011, or achieved another service milestone measured in five-year increments. View honorees.

The top awards of the night went to Jerry Nadler, MD, recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award; and Beverly Owens, recipient of the President's Staff Award for Outstanding Achievement. Dr. Nadler is the Mansbach Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. Ms. Owens is supervisor in the Department of Materials Management.

Other award recipients:

• Ann Campbell, PhD, recipient of the Dean's Faculty Achievement Award in Mentoring. She is a professor of microbiology and molecular cell biology and assistant dean for student affairs.
• Jeremy Carroll, recipient of the President's Staff Award for Community Service. He is an analyst in the Department of Telecommunications. Watch video of Mr. Carroll accepting this award.
• Mark Flemmer, MD, recipient of the Dean's Faculty Award for Achievement in Teaching in the Clinical Sciences. He is an associate professor of internal medicine.
• Kerry Jones, recipient of the President's Staff Award for Collegiality. She is office coordinator in the Office of Admissions.
• Glenda Karp, MD, recipient of the Dean's Faculty Award for Achievement by Community Faculty. She is an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics and a graduate of the EVMS pediatrics residency program.
• Antonio Quidgley-Nevares, MD, recipient of the Dean's Faculty Award for Achievement in Clinical Service. He is associate professor and chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
• Terri Rainey, recipient of the President's Staff Award for Excellence. She is office library coordinator in the Edward E. Brickell Medical Sciences Library.
• Michael A. Smith, recipient of the President's Staff Award for Integrity. He works in the Department of Accounting and Finance at EVMS Health Services.
• Amy Tang, PhD, recipient of the Dean's Faculty Award for Achievement in Research. She is an associate professor of microbiology and molecular cell biology.
