The EVMS Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine provides students in the internal medicine residency program valuable subspecialty experience in pulmonary medicine and/or critical care. For a critical care experience, residents perform three one-month blocks over the course of their residency in the intensive care service at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The division provides expertise on advanced diagnostic services, including bedside ultrasound testing. Residents gain valuable ICU experience while they are on in-patient rotations at the VA Medical Center hospital. EVMS also offers an elective in pulmonary medicine, during which residents receive experience in inpatient and outpatient consultative pulmonary medicine settings, and gain expertise in pulmonary function test analysis, sleep medicine and bronchoscopic techniques.
