Research Achievements
Scientists at the Strelitz Diabetes Center at
Eastern Virginia Medical School have discovered the INGAP gene and a method for
synthesizing the protein product in bacteria. EVMS holds two patents.
- INGAP (Islet Neogenesis Associated Protein) - the gene our
scientists believe to be responsible for creating pancreatic islet cells in the hamster.
- INGAP protein expression in a bacterial system in the
hamster.
