Our education programs provide a
variety of educational opportunities about diabetes to various segments of the
community.
Our group education classes help people manage their diabetes. ADA course approved, the group session runs for four
weeks. Each session lasts for two hours from 10 a.m. until noon. The series includes
basic information on nutrition, exercise, medications, blood sugar monitoring, preventing
complication, psychological adjustment to diabetes and how to change behavior.
We bring
the latest on diabetes and endocrine research and treatment to the local community at
our free monthly library lecture series.
We also offer continuing
medical education for health professionals. This program includes the weekly “Diabetes Seminars,” recognized by area health professionals as an invaluable
resource.
And the SDC sponsors a support group
for patients of all ages who are on insulin pumps. Our Insulin Support Group is open to
patients of all ages with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, who are on insulin pumps or
are interested in learning more about pumps. Family members, spouses, and significant
others are welcome.
