Research for a cure

Our researchers are conducting numerous clinical trials and research studies to explore better management strategies and develop possible treatments for diabetes and diabetic complications.

Investigators are working to understand the correlations between diabetes and heart disease, stop damage and safely regenerate new insulin-producing cells and identify new biomarkers for Type 1 diabetes to explore if a virus triggers the disease's development.

Fighting diabetes in our region

Southeast Virginia has the second highest prevalence of diabetes in Virginia, with an estimated 175,000 people in Hampton Roads living with the disease. Our mission to raise awareness about diabetes and its complications is more crucial than ever to the health of people in Hampton Roads and beyond.

Better patient outcomes

At the Strelitz Diabetes Center, we are focused on helping patients take control of their diabetes. Our endocrinologists and dietitians work together with patients like Daniel Hazelwood, a patient who reduced his reliance on medication in managing his diabetes, to improve their overall health.
