Doctors who earned their stripes at Eastern Virginia Medical School came back to Norfolk in August to learn revisit fond memories and hear about the future of their medical school. MD program alumni — and some of their families — came back to EVMS for their annual reunion, where they reminisced with former classmates and teachers and heard first-hand from EVMS leaders how the school is thriving. President Harry T. Lester told the group about plans for the new campus building and the ongoing strategic planning process for the school, and Dean Gerald J. Pepe, PhD, who taught many of the graduates, spoke about the strength of the latest crop of students and the thousands of aspiring physicians competing to come to EVMS. Reunion events also included a reception Aug. 14 and a formal dinner Aug. 15, as well as a Continuing Medical Education scientific session Saturday morning that featured EVMS alumni State Sen. Ralph S. Northam, MD, and Paul Phrampus, MD, as well as recently appointed chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, Stephen I. Deutsch, MD. Melissa Lang, director of Alumni Relations, hopes to grow the event for next year and is looking for class representatives to help encourage other alumni to make the trip back to EVMS.
