EVMS Health Services physician Christine Matson, MD (center, at right), chair of family and community medicine, was featured by Hampton Roads Magazine as one of the region's top family physicians. The interview is in the magazine's July/August edition along with the annual "Top Doctors" listing, which includes several other EVMS full-time and community faculty.

Biochemistry Text for Medical Students Tries New Tack |

Distilling complicated metabolic processes into digestible bites for medical students is a challenge at which most textbooks come up short. Miriam Rosenthal, PhD, professor of biochemistry in the Department of Physiological Sciences, decided to try a new approach.
Her new book, “Medical Biochemistry: Human Metabolism in Health and Disease,” which Dr. Rosenthal authored with an outside colleague, uses a narrative format to make the information more accessible to up-and-coming doctors. Medical students need to understand how those processes apply in a patient-care setting, not so much in a laboratory.

School of Health Professions Launches Alumni Association |

EVMS has established an alumni association for graduates of its School of Health Professions.
The move represents an important milestone for the graduates and for the School of Health Professions, says C. Donald Combs, PhD, vice provost for planning and health professions. Dr. Combs sees the health professions alumni as crucial to fulfilling the school’s education and community service missions.
