CME Receives Accreditation with CommendationIn July 2011, EVMS was awarded accreditation with commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. This is the highest level of accreditation offered, and is the first time EVMS has received this recognition. Accreditation with commendation is only given to providers who successfully engage in their environment and become a part of quality improvement in their community. ACCME accreditation assure physicians and the public that CME activities provided by EVMS meet the high standards of the Essential Areas, Elements, Policies, Criteria, and Standards for Accreditation as specified by ACCME. The EVMS Office of Continuing Medical Education is dedicated to the improvement of the health status of the community and recognition as a center of clinical strength in medicine through postgraduate education of physicians. The CME Program operates according to established policies and procedures to develop educational programming based upon emerging technology and outcomes research. It serves the community by providing timely education with evidence-based data. Conferences are held on campus and at local, regional and national meeting sites. Activities include conferences, symposia, special skill workshops, departmental conferences, grand rounds, and tele-conferences, Internet offerings, and other approved activities. Weekly grand rounds are broadcast to local and rural sites to enhance the accessibility of current medical information. Enduring materials, such as CDs and monographs, are also offered. The scope of services includes needs assessment, program development and management, evaluation of activities, promotion, logistics, and audiovisual support. All programming meets the criteria for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM and complies with the AMA Ethical Opinion on Gifts to Physicians and the ACCME Essential Areas and Elements and Policies.
