Remote Area Medicial Clinic: Wise County, West Virginia

Every year, EVMS second and fourth year medical students, along with MPH students, collaborate with medical students from UVA, VCU and VCOMM and the Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps providing care to the uninsured and indigent population in Wise County, Virginia. The Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps is a non-profit, volunteer, airborne relief corps dedicated to serving mankind by providing free health care, dental care, eye care, veterinary services, and technical and educational assistance to people in remote areas of the United States and the world. Founded in 1985, Remote Area MedicalĀ® (RAM) is a publicly supported all-volunteer charitable organization. Volunteer doctors, nurses, pilots, veterinarians, and support workers participate in expeditions (at their own expense) in some of the world's most exciting places. All of RAM's medical supplies, medicines, facilities, and vehicles are donated. The Wise County trip that EVMS joins is an annual, weekend-long trip that provides care to individuals from all over the region.
