LAMP: Lions Assisted Medical Projects

The EVMS Chapter of The Lions Club serves the community by participating in Lions Assisted Medical Projects (LAMPs) in the Hampton Roads area. LAMPs typically involve vision, hearing, and diabetes screenings and take place at many locations throughout the city of Norfolk. Volunteers from EVMS come from the department of Ophthalmology and help with the vision screenings for the local homeless population. As needed, the volunteers will fit patients with a pair of free eyeglasses that come from the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Chesapeake, VA. In July 2011 and 2012 the club also sent volunteers to Remote Area Medical (RAM) which is a 3-day health screening that takes place in Wise, VA. This clinic brings free medical care to thousands of patients in Appalachia.
