Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling Program Internship

Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling Program Internship

As part of the Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling program, students must complete three semester-long internships with local counseling centers. Students spend three days per week at their respective sites, which include both civilian and veteran treatment facilities. Students provide Art Therapy-Projective Imagery Assessments, individual, group and/or family art therapy for 9 hours per week, utilizing the other hours on site to attend team meetings, in-service conferences, complete documentation and conduct other related activities. Students rotate through one site per semester in order to obtain experience with children, adolescents, and adults, with service in at least one mental health facility. Students within the specialty tracks of art therapy in the schools, medical art therapy, or family art therapy are afforded that placement focus. These students work explicitly within the Hampton Roads area, and, through this program, gain immense hands-on experience while also providing direct care to the immediate Hampton Roads community.
