Asthma Interventions in Public and Assisted Multi-Family Housing

Asthma Interventions in Public and Assisted Multi-Family Housing

The Asthma Interventions in Public and Assisted Multi-Family Housing program seeks to provide assistance to caregivers of asthmatic children in Norfolk's low-income public housing. The program is able to enroll 50 caregivers and families of asthmatic children at a time to receive their services and aid. Once enrolled, surveyors are sent to the homes of the asthmatic children to collect data on the child's health and to survey the home for possible environmental risk factors. Once environmental factors are identified and noted, the program will take ameliorative action in the home to fix such risk factors to the child's respiratory health. After necessary changes to the home environment have been made, the program conducts follow up visits to check on the child's health and the safety of the home.
