Educational Planning: Needs Assessment
Element 2.1:
The provider must use a planning
process(es) that links identified educational needs with a desired
result in its provision of all CME activities.
Element 2.2:
The provider must use needs assessment
data to plan CME activities.
A learning needs survey is conducted
annually to identify educational needs perceived by the area
physicians as well as to evaluate performance of the continuing
medical education component of the medical school. This data is then
summarized and distributed to all medical departments to use in the
planning of their educational activities.
Identified needs from multiple sources
are used to initiate and support the planning process. Need
documentation is the first step in planning a CME activity.
Each source of need requires a
supporting document to use in setting methodology, design, objectives,
and evaluation of the CME activity.
The CME committee, in determining the
potential value of the activity, reviews needs assessment data.
Community physicians are surveyed via
the regional health care facilities to determine learning needs and to
determine the best vehicle for meeting these needs.
