Born in Miami Beach, Fla., Dr. Perry is a general surgeon who specializes in surgical
oncology. Dr. Perry received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from M.I.T. After receiving his
medical degree in 1980 from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Perry completed an
internship in general surgery at George Washington University Hospital and
residency training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Following completion of
his residency, Dr. Perry served as Staff Surgeon, General Surgery Service, Ireland Army
Community Hospital, Fort Knox, Ky., for two years. In 1987 he received the
Meritorious Service Medal from the United States Army. From 1987 to 1989, Dr. Perry was
Medical Staff Fellow in Surgical Oncology, Surgery Branch, National Cancer Institute of the
National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Md. He has been with EVMS since 1989. He
was awarded the EVMS Dean's Outstanding Faculty Award in 1998.
Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Perry is the principal investigator for
several funded cancer research projects, and has received a Career Development Award
from the American Cancer Society. Presently, he is the Virginia State Chairman of the
Cancer Liaison Program of the Commission on Cancer. He is a member of the Board of
Trustees of the American Cancer Society, Mid-Atlantic Division, and of the
Virginia Cancer Registry Medical Advisory Committee and the Breast Committee of the
National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP). A fellow of the American
College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology, Dr. Perry is a member of several
national organizations, including:

Surgical Association
- the American Association for Cancer Research
- the American Society
of Clinical Oncology
- the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons
- the
Association for Academic Surgery
He also received the Young Surgeon Representative
Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and the Volunteer of
the Year Award from the Norfolk Unit of the American Cancer Society.
In addition to patient care and teaching, Dr. Perry is very involved with scientific research
and research projects. He has had numerous articles and abstracts published in national
and international biomedical journals, as well as numerous scientific presentations at
national biomedical conferences. Actively involved in the community, Dr. Perry has been
invited to speak on topics such as breast cancer, colon cancer and endocrine disorders to
numerous local and statewide organizational meetings and conferences.
