Thanks to the generosity of 1,086
donors, the 2006-2007 EVMS Annual Fund Campaign passed its June 30 goal,
raising $719,872 in unrestricted support for Eastern Virginia Medical
School’s education, research and patient care programs.
EVMS alumni contributed $149,015 and
EVMS faculty and staff contributed $65,237.
The community campaign raised $505,620.
The community effort was co-chaired by Bob Aston of TowneBank, Andrew
Fine of The Runnymede Corporation and Wayne Wilbanks of Wilbanks, Smith
& Thomas Asset Management, with the support of 38 other community
volunteers.
The Annual Fund supports excellence by
providing a flexible source of revenue that EVMS leadership can direct
toward new opportunities and unexpected challenges. This year’s campaign
provided a literal “margin of excellence” by allowing EVMS to create
more elbow room — and a more conducive learning environment — in Roper
Lecture Hall, the second largest auditorium in Lewis Hall. Renovations
completed this summer provided more seating, more room between seats,
improved audiovisuals and wireless networking. Other advances made
possible by increased unrestricted revenues include additional funds for
research equipment and increased student scholarships. EVMS was also
able to maintain its current subscriptions in the Brickell Library, in
spite of rapidly increasing subscription rates for scientific journals.
This year EVMS also launched the Circle
of Excellence to recognize Annual Fund supporters.
- Contributors who give $100 or more
to the Annual Fund (Friends) are invited to an annual reception.
- Donors of $500 or more (Supporters)
are also recognized in The Chronicle.
- In addition, donors who give
$1,000 or more (Ambassadors, Partners, Patrons, Pillars) are also
recognized on a donor wall in the Brickell Library atrium and
receive invitations to special events.
