Admission to Eastern Virginia Medical
School (EVMS) is highly competitive. Each year, EVMS receives an
estimated 5,000 applications from which approximately 115 students are
chosen. The admissions process begins on June 1 and ends on the first
day of class in mid-August of the following year.
Initial applications
are received through the American Medical College Application Service
(AMCAS) of the American Association of
Medical Colleges.
The Committee on Admissions, which is
comprised of members of the EVMS clinical and basic science faculty,
community faculty and medical students, is ultimately responsible for
deciding which applicants to EVMS are accepted for admission. Private
community physicians, faculty members, and medical students contribute
their time and effort throughout the admissions process to assure that
the best possible applicants are chosen for the entering class. The
committee’s goal is to ensure that EVMS continues to graduate
physicians who demonstrate academic excellence, compassion, and
dedication.
