Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development

Eastern Virginia Medical School is seeking an Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development who will report directly to the Dean/Provost and be responsible for coordinating the faculty affairs functions, and initiating leadership and development programs for faculty in medical student, health professions, and graduate medical education programs. The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development will work closely with the Vice President for Diversity to ensure the diverse needs of the faculty are addressed.

Responsibilities for this position include managing the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development; managing the appointment, promotion and tenure processes; facilitating creation of collaborative relationships within EVMS and between EVMS and other institutions of higher education; engaging faculty at all affiliated hospitals and other institutions of higher education and including them in programs as appropriate; monitoring and enhancing the annual faculty evaluation system in coordination with the Office of Human Resources; developing, implementing, and monitoring an annual Chair evaluation program; developing, implementing and monitoring a new faculty orientation program; overseeing the coordination of external reviews of the departments of EVMS; creating and maintaining a Faculty Development Website; developing succession planning and faculty mentoring programs and processes for department chairs and faculty; establishing benchmarks that evaluate the effectiveness of programs developed; and assisting the Dean/Provost with development and implementation of strategic planning.

Candidates should possess an advanced degree, preferably a PhD, EdD, or MD, with prior experience in senior academic administration at a medical institution or health sciences center. Highly valued in the recruitment process are applicants with demonstrated ability to develop new, effective programs which meet the needs of the target population. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational and management talents, demonstrated skills in communication and leadership with proven ability in working effectively with faculty, administration and staff.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The preferred start date is on or before January of 2013.
