EVMS program hosts wilderness medicine race

April 14, 2008

Thirty-six teams from along the East Coast spent a dreary Saturday trudging the woods of Newport News for the third annual MedWAR (Medical Wilderness Adventure Racing) held in Hampton Roads. The EVMS emergency medicine residency program sponsored the race, and six of the three-person teams included EVMS students or residents. Other teams came from schools such as Johns Hopkins University, New York Medical College, Duke University and the University of Virginia, among others.

The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Christian Medical Association team finished the grueling race with a final time just over 7 hours, 15 minutes including penalty time. EVMS’ “Not Sure Yet” trio of Branden Reid, Patrick Finkley and Patrick Cronyn came in a close second.
