NORFOLK—Mini Delashaw, M.D.,
Ph.D., a 2006 graduate of the EVMS emergency medicine residency
program, received the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA)
Academic Excellence Award.
According to the EMRA, the national
award is given to a resident who has done "outstanding work in
research or other academic pursuits." Selection criteria include
"recognition by one's own institution for their academic excellence
and publication within the medical literature." Approximately 4,500
residents were eligible for the award.
Delashaw, who published two
peer-reviewed articles in professional journals during her tenure at
EVMS, with another under review, said she is grateful for the
education she received from Frank Counselman, M.D., chairman of
emergency medicine, and the rest of the faculty from the department.
"I am so fortunate to have trained in
the EVMS emergency medicine program," she said recently. "It's no
wonder the program is so successful — Dr. Counselman is an
incredible mentor, clinician and educator and the emergency medicine
faculty is amazing."
Delashaw, one of the chief residents at the EVMS program last year,
received the award at the EMRA Awards Reception in San Francisco in
May.
Delashaw received her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Texas Women's
University and her M.D. from the University of Texas at Houston. She
currently works at the Medical Center of Lewisville, Texas, north of
Dallas and practices with Questcare.
