She is known nationally for her prominent roles in a variety of medical organizations. She was vice-president and a board member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the membership society for all U.S. dermatologists, and the first woman president and secretary-treasurer of the American Society of Dermatopathology. Currently, Hood sits on the American Board of Dermatology (ABD), the certifying body for dermatologists throughout the nation. She formerly served as a director and later as executive director of the ABD. Hood, a Norfolk resident, holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
