NORFOLK, VA — The 2009 Eastern Virginia Medical School baccalaureate service was held on Friday, May 15, at the Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center at Tidewater Community College in downtown Norfolk. Keynote speaker Donald W. Lewis, MD, professor and chair of pediatrics at EVMS, discussed the importance of humility in the successful practice of medicine and MD graduate Nabeel Qureshi offered a thoughtful invocation on what it means to be a doctor. Presided over by 2009 MD class president Nicole Reynolds, the program also included readings by MD graduates Krystle Azoury, Carrie Valdez and Emily Sterrett, as well as a performance by EVMS a cappella group Neural Groove. Physician assistant graduates Jessica Womack and Alexis Buettner and MD graduates Katherine Apostolakis, Jennifer Ta and Navindra Ramdath led the reading of the covenant. The Rev.
