EVMS symbolically broke ground for the new education and research building Sept. 17, 2009, with then-Gov. Timothy M. Kaine as the guest speaker. The building is scheduled for occupancy in July 2011.

The new building will allow the school to expand its MD program by 30 percent and its physician assistant enrollment by 60 percent.
